  Dr Shapiro emphatically said I needed surgery and quickly for 3 reasons. I went to a surgeon specialist for a 2nd opinion. He disagreed and gave the reasons based on my history and his examination, a history that Dr Shapiro seemed to ignore. Be careful with this man's quick surgical remedies. Get other opinions.

  The one star is not based on Dr. Shapiro, but his staff and office. I actually liked Dr. Shapiro but I ended up cancelling my surgery with him and finding a new surgeon because of his office.
  I waited 2.5 weeks for an appointment. My appointment was at 9:00 a.m. I had a new insurance and this was the first time using it. It is a deductible plan, so I knew I had to pay the deductible, which would be a negotiated rated between Dr. Shapiro and the insurance. I paid $294 for my appointment. I waited and waited. After one hour of waiting, I asked how much longer, I was told 15 minutes. After 25 minutes, I asked if I could just get my money back as I needed to get to work, I was assured that I was next. After 1.5 hours of waiting, yet another patient was called. When I questioned this, another staff member came over and advised me that my room was not ready yet, you know, 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment time. Finally after 1 hour and 45 minutes of waiting, I got to see the doctor. I liked him and felt comfortable with him so I went ahead and scheduled surgery. I asked for an estimate on surgery costs, I was told that it was a busy time of year and they would advise me two weeks prior to surgery (which I scheduled 3 months out).
  Fast forward, I contacted my insurance about the cost of the appointment. They were unable to see where the doctor had filed to use my insurance, but they believed, based on their negotiated costs, I paid too much. On December 28, 2017, 10 days after my appointment, I called the office to follow up and ask what the issue was. I was told that they had overcharged me and that they had not filed on my insurance, but they would do it right away, it would take ten days. I thanked staff and waited. Today was day 11. To date, still no claim on my insurance. I called the office around 8:30 a.m. and asked for billing again, after being on hold forever, I was told Alana was unavailable, but she would call me back. At 3:45 with no response phone call, I called again. Alana answered the phone and I inquired once again why they had not filed with my insurance. She stated that she was waiting on the doctor's notes, you know, almost a month after surgery. I explained to her once again that they over charged me and are committing fraud by not billing my insurance and over-billing me for the appointment. She didn't care. I told her I was going to go ahead and make a claim against the office, that also did not bother her. She told me that there was no time limit on filing claims with insurance.
  
  I filed a claim with my insurance and with Florida Department of Financial Services.
  
  While this is not a lot of money that I am waiting to be refunded, it is the principal that I provided insurance, the office refuses to bill my insurance company and they overcharged me for my appointment. I won't even get into how nasty staff members were to not only me, but other patients who waited over an hour to see the doctor.
